Happy New Year Alumnae Members and Friends!
New year, new
decade, new challenges, new solutions, renewed commitment. That about sums up our outlook for 2010.
Let me first start by welcoming our new executive: Francene Simmonds takes over as Secretary and
Heather Potter takes on the role of Social Event Coordinator. Some of you may know that these ladies recently
completed terms as officers in other roles. They were too good to let go so they were elected to new positions.
Leslyn Weekes and Sharon Mullings continue as Vice President and Treasurer respectively. We thank
them all for their commitment and dedication and look forward to another successful year.
Thank you too
to all the members and friends who have supported us through the past year and beyond. Special thanks and
gratitude are extended to the spouses of our members who have been there for us at every turn. We truly
appreciate your efforts on our behalf.
We face this new year recognizing but not conceding to the economic challenges
of the day. As part of our effort to find new solutions we are increasing our collaboration with the Parent
Teachers' Association at the school and hope to work even more closely with them on joint projects. This
partnership has already yielded results by way of increased flow and depth of information pertinent to the school and the
educational climate in Jamaica at the moment. We intend to strengthen and deepen this relationship to the
benefit of the students and staff of our beloved Queen's.
We invite
all past students (or "old girls'" if you prefer) to join us in our ongoing efforts to assist our alma mater.
You've found our website, so join us too on FaceBook under Queen's Alumnae Atlanta Chapter - it is a great
opportunity to network with Queen's alumnae near and far away. Please let us hear from you, if only
to know that you have received our emails. We continue to meet on the first Saturday of each month at the
homes of members and hope you will invite us over one month
Our focus this year will be on increasing the organization's exposure,
membership development, and strengthening our collaborative efforts both here in Atlanta and at the school. Please
watch your email for details of upcoming fundraising events - we already know the dates:
Annual Walkathon - Saturday - May 1
Joan Andrea Hutchinson - July 31
Tea Party - October 10
We
look forward to another successful year and hope to see more of you as we seek to uplift, encourage and engage the students
and staff at our alma mater in the quest to help the students flourish in virtue and wisdom.
Yours in service
Sarah Vaughan
